Brief Overview

Stories Through the Ages held a mental math competition for underprivileged children in the Sector 40 slums of Chandigarh, India. We held the competition for two different grade levels: 4th – 6th and 7th – 10th. Each grade level had 20 and 15 participants respectively. The competition was held in the same main hall of the Sector 40 gurdwara.

Format

The format of the competition was a written test similar to the UIL Number Sense competition. The 4th – 6th-grade level was given 5 minutes to answer 100 questions, and the 7th – 10th-grade level was given 5 minutes to answer 75 questions. Stories Through the Ages created all test questions.

Population Served

The population served in this project is one in imperative need: underprivileged children who come from uneducated families. They often do not have the wisdom or guidance of their parents to assist them in their studies, which is why Stories Through the Ages is stepping in to help assist.

Stories Through the Ages is a federal 501(c)3 Nonprofit Corporation. We serve underprivileged children and isolated senior citizens.
